A veteran of considerable adversity along with six-consecutive Spengler Cups, defenceman Chris Belanger appeared for a number of clubs and leagues throughout his hockey tenure, skating in the ECHL, CHL and IEL, as well as the Austrian and Swiss A and B leagues among others. Belanger was also selected by the Hartford Whalers in the 9th round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. We have four Team Canada jerseys that were donned by the Welland native internationally, including examples from 2000-02, 2002-04, and 2003-04, with a second Team Canada jersey from 2003-04 that was worn in that season’s Skoda Cup tournament that witnessed the Canadians finish in second place.
All similar in style, each jersey was manufactured by Nike, with embroidered swoosh logos over the right breast and back neckline. Featuring textured team crests with embroidered detailing, dual-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers have also been utilized, with alternate crests placed over each shoulder along with “Belanger” across each nameplate. The 2000-02 example is labeled as a size “54”, while the 2002-04 and 2003-04 jerseys are size 56 and the Skoda Cup example, size 58. There is also advertising along the bottom front on the Skoda Cup jersey. Condition and game-use varies, with the sleeves shortened (cuffs cut) on the 2003-04 jersey, along with heavy wear and blood staining to the 2002-04 jersey.
