A legend with the Montreal Canadiens first as a player and later coach, Toe Blake won an impressive 11 Stanley Cups as both a player and skipper, with induction in the HOF occurring in 1966. We have an award presented to Blake in 1964 with a scrapbook, along with a Montreal Canadiens Varaflame table lighter from the 1960s and Dow hat trick trophy from the 1950s. The Blake award is a 10” x 12” shield-shaped wooden base with attached metal plaque, with a Kinsmen logo along the top with the particulars listed including “Presented to Toe Blake by Kinsmen Club of Sudbury May 13 1964”. The 11” x 15” scrapbook is loaded with interesting newspaper clippings featuring Blake, highlighted by a Parade Sportive of the HOFer along with a trimmed 1931-32 Sudbury Wolves postcard.
The Blake award shows light wear with scratches present on the plaque, along with a maker’s sticker affixed to the reverse. The scrapbook exhibits expected wear, with no loose pages or damage. The Varaflame lighter is almost 3” in height, with a wooden base that features a full colour Habs logo, with a sticker from Ronson along the underside. The lighter shows just minor wear, and we’re unsure if it’s still operational. Lastly, the Dow hat trick award features a gold coloured metal hat that extends from the base, with a mounted puck below with a Dow logo and “Trophee Tour-Du-Chapeau”. A Dow label has also been affixed to the base, with "Souvenir de Maurice Richard juillet ???4" handwritten. With just light wear, the award remains in wonderful condition.
