The second edition of the popular tournament, the 1981 Canada Cup was held in various Canadian cities, with the Soviets defeating the host nation. Hailing from the collection of longtime CHL and WHL president Ed Chynoweth and consigned by his direct family, we have a 1981 Canada Cup 10K gold ring that was presented to the important hockey administrator. Size 8 with a weight of 15 grams, a half maple leaf sits centralized, encompassed by “Coupe Canada Cup”, with four approx. .02 ct brilliant cut diamonds with SI clarity and H colour. The shanks contain both “19” and “81”, with the inner band stamped “10K” and “D”. Comes with an LOA from the family.
Fairly heavy wear to the band is present, with numerous scratches along with small gouges, with additional weas to both the tableau and inner band. Chynoweth served as the president of the WHL from 1972-95 and president of the CHL from 1975-95. Passing from cancer in 2008, the WHL renamed its championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his honour. Chynoweth was posthumously elected to the HOF as a builder late in 2008.
