An all-Saskatchewan final, the 1989 Memorial Cup tournament witnessed Swift Current defeat Saskatoon in overtime before a crowd of over 11,000 to capture their first championship. Hailing from the collection of longtime CHL and WHL president Ed Chynoweth and consigned by his direct family, we have a 1989 Swift Current Broncos Memorial Cup champions 10K gold ring that was presented to the important hockey administrator. Size 8 with a weight of 27 grams, “Broncos” appears across the face inset with eleven .005 ct diamonds, with “Memorial Cup” above and “Champions” below. “1989” along with “Swift Current” appear on the left shank, with a green enameled shamrock and “Chynoweth” on the right. The inner band is stamped “10K” along with a hallmark. Comes with an LOA from the family.
Moderate wear is present on the beautiful keepsake, with scratches along the band and edges, with some minor dirt visible within grooves. Chynoweth served as the president of the WHL from 1972-95 and president of the CHL from 1975-95. Passing from cancer in 2008, the WHL renamed its championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his honour. Chynoweth was posthumously elected to the HOF as a builder late in 2008.
