Originally produced for use in the commercial market, we have eight wonderful and imaginative works of art, executed by staff artists from Disney in the 1960s/1970s. Ranging in size from roughly 5 ¾” x 10 ¼” to 11 ½” x 12 ½”, five of the original works have been executed on Bainbridge artist illustration board, with the other three matted on board. A number of beloved and iconic Disney characters are featured, including Peter Pan, Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, Lady – along with the Tramp and Alice in Wonderland. Three of the piece’s feature pairs of cameos, including Lady and the Tramp, Snow White with Happy and Peter Pan with Wendy Darling, while the next example features Alice in Wonderland with the White Rabbit. Finally, we have four different pieces that feature Winnie the Pooh.
The breakdown for each original Disney artwork is as follows. 1) Peter Pan with Wendy (6” x 10 ¼”). The pair are pictured in cameos, matted with cardboard. 2) Lady and the Tramp (5 ¾” x 10”). The pair are pictured in cameos, matted with cardboard. 3) Snow White and Happy (6” x 10”). Like the previous two examples, the pair are pictured in cameos, matted with cardboard. 4) Alice in Wonderland (11 ½” x 12 ½”). A paper drawing of the beloved character along with the White Rabbit has been affixed to board, with a Walt Disney Productions copyright cut affixed to the bottom right. A second strip has been added, with “Alice in Wonderland” appearing in English and French. There is some staining that has soaked through the paper from glue residue. 5) Winnie and the Honey Pot (6 ¼” x 9 ¼”). Winnie is all smiles as he approaches a spilt pot. No issues to note other than a pen notation to the reverse. 6) Winnie at Play (8 ½” x 12 ½”). The lovable bear is seen twice, with an example playing with a balloon, while the other image shows Winnie enjoying some much earned honey. A few small stains from residue are present above the illustration, with a stray pencil line along the right hand side. 7) Winnie with Flowers (6 ½” x 11 ¾”). Winnie is seen with a handful of flowers, sniffing a chosen specimen. A few stray pencil lines are present. 8) Winnie the Pooh (7 ¼” x 10”). The lovable scamp is pictured all smiles. A few stray pencil lines are present, with additional notations on verso. During the 1960s and 1970s the Disney Corporation had a close alliance with a Toronto-based advertising company. This company used depictions of famous Disney characters on bread wrappers, milk cartons and other products. Disney sent its own artists to assist with the layout of these promotional pieces and these hand sketched drawings were done by actual Disney artists and each is a one-of-a-kind original Disney piece of art. These sketches had remained in the possession of a retired advertising employee and are now available for your enjoyment.
