Issued among the plethora of sports merchandising that was produced during the early-1970s, toy maker Mattel jumped into the fray, with their 1971-72 “Instant Replay” mini-records. Sold in packages of 4, only 9 different hockey records were included, with stars of the day utilized including Orr, Plante, Howe, Cournoyer and others. We have two unopened packs of the neat little collectibles, along with an additional 4 records. At 6 ¾” x 9 ¾”, each package remains unopened, with an example labeled “Hockey Stars 1” that includes Howe, Mahovlich and the Esposito brothers, along with a “Sports Challenge 1” example the covers boxing (2), hockey and basketball. The additional 4 records feature Howe, Plante, Cournoyer and Phil Esposito.
The unopened packages show minimal wear with some minor creasing present, with the original retail store price tags removed, with the remaining 4 mini-records in excellent condition with light surface wear.
