Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
The “24” patch sewn on the right breast of Sheldon Brookbank’s signed 2011-12 Anaheim Ducks game-worn third jersey honors former Mighty Ducks defenseman Ruslan Salei, who was among the victims of the horrific Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash that killed all of the members of the Russian on the eve of their Kontinental Hockey League season opener. In the wake of the September 7, 2011 crash, the Ducks wore the Salei “24” memorial patch throughout the first month of the 2011-12 season and subsequently auctioned these game-worn jerseys for charity. Brookbank signed his No. 21 game-worn third jersey in bold black marker on the top of the “2” sewn on the back. Two Anaheim Ducks team patches are sewn inside the rear tail, including one that reads “13 of 25, 2011-2012 Limited Edition Anaheim Ducks 3rd Jersey Honoring #24 Ruslan Salei” with a Mighty Ducks logo on the right side. It is sewn above the “2011-2012 Season 3rd Jersey Set #1” patch, which has “T1112B-0033” handwritten in black marker on the upper left corner. Each of the two “Customized by MonkeySports, Inc.” team patches has the facsimile signature of Ducks head equipment manager Doug Shearer. The size 58 flag tag in the back of the neck is sewn over by nameplate stitching. Game wear shows in board burns on the front tail, to the right of the “24” patch and both sleeves and light marks on the bottom of the “2” on the back.
