Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy’s 1995-96 Colorado Avalanche game-worn goalie pads are photo-matched to game action early on after his blockbuster December 6, 1995 trade from the Montreal Canadiens in his first Stanley Cup championship season with the Avs. Roy’s Koho Revolution pads in Colorado’s maroon, black and white colors stand in contrast to his blocker and glove in Habs red, white and blue and plain white mask on his 1995-96 Topps hockey card that is matched to distinctive black marks on the left pad. “Koho Revolution Pro” patches are sewn on the outside edge of each pad at the top of the knee and further game wear shows in more black marks and scuffs to the right side of the right pad.
**Addendum - We should note some pertinent information for these Patrick Roy game-worn photo-matched pads. This pair originally came from Patrick's pro stock rep which adds important provenance, and we should also note that the straps are a different colour, mostly likely at the request of Roy himself. There is also some handwriting on the pads that originates again from Patrick himself, with writing the initials of his children on jerseys a common practice that we've witnessed previously. Considering the concrete provenance along with the familiar markings from Patrick and the fact that these were the first pads employed by the HOFer during his first season in Colorado that garnered a Stanley Cup championship, we feel this pair should be high on the list of any collector seeking especially important Roy examples with ensured authenticity.
The left pad is photo-matched to Roy’s 1995-96 Topps hockey card by the long vertical black mark on the bottom front of the white leather portion and to the diagonal black marks to the left of the bottom portion of that mark towards the inner edge of the pad. The original white leather toe skate straps on the front of Roy’s pads that show in the photo-match where changed at some point to the current black straps. There is a “J.R.” notation in black marker on the right side of the very top edge of the right pad.
