Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

The older bother of longtime 1930s Montreal standout Alfred “Pit” Lepine, Hector Lepine skated a single season in the NHL with the Canadiens in 1925-26 before moving onto a second single season with the Providence Reds of the CAHL the following year. We have Lepine’s original NHL contract for three seasons beginning in 1925-26 season, with signatures present from HOF Habs GM Leo Dandurand, along with Lepine and a witness. At roughly 8 ½” x 14” (unfolded), the particulars have been listed including a clause that states “It is also understood that the player will not be sold or traded during the life of this agreement”. NHL contracts from the 1920s and earlier are extremely hard to locate, especially examples representing important clubs with HOF signatures.
While the contract is currently in low grade due to heavy wear, toning and edge tear/separations along fold lines, it still displays admirably, especially if set into an attractive frame. We should also note the main page/flap has become completely detached.
