Playing in the AHL as the Barons beginning in 1937, Cleveland’s minor league team began life in the late-1920s in the IHL as the Cleveland Indians. The club would be especially successful during their tenure which ended in 1973, winning ten division titles along with nine Calder Cups. We have an impressive pair of calendar posters from the franchise, including one from the inaugural season in 1937-38, along with an example from their sophomore campaign in 1938-39 that has been signed by 5. The inaugural season example is 22 ½” x 39 and features a centralized team picture along with the home schedule along the bottom. The second season calendar is 22” x 28”, and it features a team picture along the upper section with events listed for the Barons’ venue including their schedule within the calendar.
The inaugural season calendar/poster has been signed by 5 as previously mentioned, including Bud Cook, Phil Hergesheimer (twice), Earl Bartholomew, Earl Roche and Peggy O'Neil, with a few of the signatures light. With edge tears, creasing and loss along the left border, the poster remains in good condition, with some heavy soiling/toning also present along the lower section. The second season calendar/poster has a few edge tears along with light creasing and toning, with pinholes present at each corner.
