Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Currently serving as the goaltending coach for the New Jersey Devils, Roland Melanson spent parts of five seasons on Long Island with the Islanders, winning the William M. Jennings Trophy - along with Billy Smith, in 1982–83. We have an Islanders jersey worn by the Moncton native during the 1983-84 Stanley Cup playoffs. CCM labeling sits atop a born-on date tag of “04 84” along the collar, with an embroidered CCM crest (with asterisk) on the back bottom hem. Styled with the iconic Long Island team crest fully administered in tri-colour tackle twill, the mesh-style V-neck has been accented with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers, with “Melanson” across the nameplate in single blue twill.
While primarily serving as backup to Billy Smith during the 1984 playoffs, Melanson did see some action during the spring. Game-wear on the garment includes just a few random marks present, notably beneath the team crest and over the upper left sleeve. There is also some blue paint transfer beneath the reverse number.
