Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Generally considered the father of Canadian Medicare, Tommy Douglas was born in Scotland and grew up in Winnipeg, studying theology at Brandon College and eventually becoming an ordained minister at the Calvary Baptist Church. Later, as Premier of Saskatchewan, he implemented a universal healthcare system whose model was eventually adopted by the Federal Government. He was also the first leader of the NDP, and on the CBC show “The Greatest Canadian” in April of 2004, he was crowned the greatest Canadian in history. We have a hardcover copy of “Tommy Douglas Speaks”, signed by the important patriot. With intact dust jacket, the 288 page volume features three signed ballpoint inscriptions on the front Endpaper, including “Best Wishes Tommy Douglas”. The other two inscriptions are addressed to a “Bob”, and they do little to infringe on the overall aesthetics of the Douglas signature. With just some expected wear to the dust jacket, the book and signatures remain in beautiful condition.
