Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Originating from the personal collection of Hall of Fame winger Frank Mahovlich, we have a pair of game-used sticks from fellow house of holy inductees, Jean Beliveau and Yvan Cournoyer. The Cournoyer example is a Sher-Wood PMP model with “Cournoyer Y” and “12” stamped-on along with store supplier “McNiece’s”, with all the original tape intact, including on the custom-shaved handle. There is also a date stamp of “6 Mar 1973”. The Beliveau stick is a Victoriaville Pro, and according to Mahovlich, he received it on the night of big Jean’s final game. All of the original tape has been removed, with tape added to the handle as this stick was further employed with the Mahovlich clan. An LOA from Frank Mahovlich will be included.
The Cournoyer stick shows nice use, with cracking and separation to the blade along the bottom of the shaft and heel section, with the blade tape loose in a number of spots. The Beliveau stick exhibits moderate use, with marks on the blade and lower shaft, along with some wear to the underside which includes some light cracking.
