Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Always desirable, antique hockey photography allows collectors and historians to contemplate the early game in all its simplistic wonderment. This early-1900s Lachute Hockey Team photo captures that very sentiment. With an image area of just over 12” x 16”, the large format photo features a full team and executives with one spare, attractively attired in wool sweaters with a large affixed felt “L” . Early equipment abounds, with the goaltender in early white pads along with one-piece sticks and pre-tubular skates. Framed to total dimensions of roughly 23” x 28”, the players are listed on the mount, along with “Champions Lower Ottawa Hockey Association, 1904”. Produced by famous Ottawa lensman Pittaway, the photo and mount remain in beautiful condition, exhibiting just light wear with a few marks present, there is also some light toning, with two vertical areas where the surface slightly darkens. The frame is period and probably originates with the photo, with heavy wear to the hand-carved embellishments, especially along the left hand edge.
