This massive magazine collection will keep the winning bidder consumed for weeks! We have over 700 sports publications from the 1940s and ‘50s, with a few possibly earlier or later. A number of titles are included, with a large concentration focusing on Sports Illustrated, with an almost complete run for the first two years, 1954 and 1955. There is also a small run of Baseball magazine from the late-1940s to early-1950s, along with over 90 issues of baseball digest. Other titles featured include Sport, Who’s Who in the Big Leagues, All Star Sports, Great Moments in Sports, Baseball Hereos, Our Sports, Inside Baseball and more. Highlights include the first and second issues of Sports Illustrated. The second issue has the baseball cards intact, as does the April 18th 1955 issue which is also included.
Other highlights in this massive magazine collection include the Baseball magazine from August of 1951, with a rookie Mantle on the cover, along with Mickey’s iconic SI issue from 1956, his Triple Crown year. There’s a copy of Babe Ruth as I knew him from 1948, the year he passed and much more. The legends of the day from the majority of the major sports are pictured on covers and and featured in articles. The condition ranges as one would expect, with a number in exceptional condition exhibiting just light handling wear, while a large percentage of the collection includes low grade examples, with ripped/torn covers, creasing, toning, missing pages along with surface and spine wear. The first issue of Sports Illustrated exhibits heavy wear, with the front and back covered adhered with clear tape.
