Mike Modano was the first overall pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, and a wise choice it was, as Modano ended his career as the 2nd highest all-time points leader for American-born players. This Dallas Stars alternate captain’s jersey was worn by the Hall of Famer in 1995-96, and it’s been photo-matched. With just a single size “56” tag along the collar, a Maska AirKnit laundry tag is affixed to the inside seam, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests on the back bottom hem. Accented with dual-layer twill numbers and name-on-nameplate, the jersey also features matching Texas crests over each shoulder. Various marks on the jersey have been photo-matched to three different Getty images.
We should note that “96-97” has been written on the fight strap, over a previous notation that appears to be “95-96”, which most likely points to the jersey being recycled and worn again for the 1996-97 season. Game-wear on the garment consists of numerous black marks on each sleeve, along with a large example on the lower front band. There is also pilling on the lower front, inside lower band and along each cuff. Getty image #224438 from April 17th 1996 has been matched to the mark near the "R" on "Stars" on the team crest, while Getty image #243011 from April 12th 1996 has been matched to the two marks on the middle of the lower front hem. And finally, Getty image #243009, also from April 12th 1996 has been matched to the big black mark to the left of the "9" on the reverse.
