Can you say “three-in-a-row?” The New York Islanders and their fans certainly could after the 1981-82 NHL regular season champions again came through in the ’82 playoffs, becoming the first U.S.-based team to claim the Stanley Cup for three consecutive years! Fifty-goal seasons from Bossy (68) and Trottier (50) as well as 30-plus goal campaigns from Gillies and Tonelli contributed greatly, with the Vancouver Canucks swept in the Stanley Cup final. Members of the now dynasty squad received personal miniatures of the trophy they had worked so hard to retain. The players’ names are engraved in three columns on the barrel of the silver-plated trophy which stands just under 13” high, while the names of team executives, coaches and trainers are inscribed higher up and beneath that of president and GM Bill Torrey. Blotches of tarnish are visible on the barrel throughout, with the green felt-lined bottom of the base autographed nicely by Clark Gillies.
