Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
A sensational pre-war offering is this stunning blue and red wool sweater with a “RHC” (Royals Hockey Club) crest that features a “Junior Champions 1933” notation. Research reveals that the Montreal Royals won the 1932-33 Quebec Junior title and then defeated the Moncton Red Indians, before losing to the Newmarket (Ontario) Redmen in the Memorial Cup Eastern Canadian final. The two teams tied 2-2 at the Montreal Forum before Newmarket scored a narrow 1-0 victory at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens. With the embroidered and felt crest on the front and a red felt number “6” sewn on the back, the sweater has survived in exceptional condition. One darned dime-size repair is in the middle stripe on the lower front, with another just to the left of the “6”. Two quarter-size holes (lower back) and four small ones (right cuff) are also to note. Approximate size is 38. The tantalizing treasure will come with a letter of provenance.
