The fascinating images and accompanying autographs here are those of men who represented the United States at the 1938 World Ice Hockey Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The goaltender standing at the far right is Gerry Cosby, famous in later years as a hockey equipment supplier, while next to him is head coach John Hutchinson who signed “Hutch” beneath his image. The intriguing message on the back of the real photo postcard which was sent to New Haven, Connecticut, it can be deduced, was written and signed by “Ralph” and that would be New Haven’s Ralph Dondi, pictured third from the left. Others are Ray Lemieux of Waterville, Maine, Larry Charest of Lewiston, Maine, Art Bogue of Detroit, Spencer Wagnild of Minneapolis, George Quirk of Providence, RI, Allan Van of St. Paul, Minnesota and Hugh Young of New Haven. With multiple light creases but no tears or real unsightly flaws, the fantastic find is a U.S. hockey historian’s delight.
