Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
On top of the hockey world in the late-1970s, Guy Lafleur was awarded the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson trophies in 1977-78, capping it off with his third consecutive Stanley Cup at the end of the season. This NHL All-Star Wales Conference jersey was worn by Guy in the superstar showcase that very season. The collar retains its Gerry Cosby tagging including size 48 tag, with “Lafleur” in black tackle twill letters with orange trim affixed directly to the back of the jersey. Featuring a large and clean NHL shield crest, the jersey sports additional shields over both breasts and shoulders. Each sleeve has a white star adhered between the dual-colour striping bands, with another half dozen matching examples evenly spaced across the front and back lower band. Originally from Lafleur’s personal collection, game-use on the cream-coloured V-neck sweater includes a few dark marks on both sleeves along with one over the left breast, and a few marks centered on the lower front. The garment also has a few faint but distinct board burns on both sleeves, with a small resulting hole on each. This important Hall of Fame sweater worn by an especially prominent member at the peak of his career is augmented by the fact that Guy had 60 goals in 1977-78, the highest season number of his career. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
