Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
With Calder Cup victories in their first two seasons of existence, the Maine Mariners flourished in the AHL for over a decade before the second franchise of the team started play in 1987. Originally obtained from Dave "Sudsy" Settlemyre who worked for the Flyers at that time as a trainer, this jersey was worn by Al Hill circa 1983-84. The collar retains its Sandow tagging, with an additional Sandow SK rubberized crest on the back bottom hem. In Philadelphia Flyers colours, the attractive jersey also features tackle twill numbers and name-on-nameplate. Most likely recycled from the previous season due to nameplate removal evidence, the garment shows nice use.
With 2 team repairs present on the right sleeve along with a small tear, there is also some red paint transfer on the left sleeve as well as a few dark marks on the lower front. As mentioned, this jersey was originally obtained from Dave “Sudsy” Settlemyre. Settlemyre was a long time trainer and emergency player/goaltender dating from the late-1960s. He worked for the Greensboro Generals, Roanoke Valley Rebels, Jacksonville Rockets (one game), Philadelphia Firebirds, Maine Mariners, Philadelphia Flyers, Hershey Bears, Kalamazoo Wings, Minnesota & Dallas Stars and the Florida Panthers.
