Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
This suit was worn during the 2003 season while Jacques was driving for the Lucky Strike BAR Honda team. Jacques ran 14 of 16 races with a best finish of 6th at the Brazilian and Italian Grand Prix’s.
Although this suit is not photo-matched it does appear very similar to all other suits worn that season at tobacco events as it carries the full Lucky Strike livery on it. The 2003 season suits had a very unique accessory, there was extra Velcro sewn on the front of the neck as well as a piece sewn on the thigh. When doing and interview the driver had a small piece of nomex material with the team sponsor “LUCKY STRIKE” sewn on it that he would attach to the neck. When finished the interview he would remove the piece from the neck and attach it to the Velcro on the thigh. This suit does not have the Lucky Strike patch but you can see where the extra Velcro was sewn on the neck and thigh.
The Alpine Star suit is custom-made for Jacques as he liked his suits made 1-2 sizes too large for him. The extra room in the suits made them more comfortable while spending long periods of time in the car. The suit has Lucky Strike livery as well as Honda and even a Newtown logo, which was Jacques’ restaurant in Montreal. The suit also has a number “9” handwritten in the neck. We are unsure as to whether this indicates the 9th suit of the season or the suit from the 9th race. The 9th race was the European GP, this suit is a similar style used that weekend but nothing has shown us a conclusive photo-match. Tagging on the inside has handwritten information which includes “J. Villeneuve (driver), “Bar Honda…2003 (team)” and “W..03.BAR.B.03 (suit code)”.
The suit is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
Please take note that the NOMEX head sock, the gloves and boots shown on the pictures are for display purposes only and are not included.
