Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
A remarkable rookie campaign that culminated in winning the Calder Memorial, Vezina and William Jennings Trophies, Ed Belfour was also selected to the All-Rookie Team in 1990-91, with a First Team All-Star selection also earned by the HOFer. Originating from his very first games played with the Black Hawks in 1988-89, we have a photo-matched helmet worn by the superstar. A Cooper model in solid white outfitted with a matching Cooper HM30 cage, the padding is intact, and we should note that the cage currently attached to the mask is not the same example as seen in photos in our database of Ed during the 1988-89 season. A second cage, one that we believe was previously mounted on the mask and is the right style is also included. Exhibiting considerable use with wear, scratches and abrasions throughout, the extension piece over the left side is broken in half, with rusting to the screws and hardware that secure the cage over the forehead. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
The mask is photo-matched to the wear pattern on the logo over the forehead (Belfour wore #31 during his rookie season in 1988-89). The additional cage feature’s a small extended throat protector, with a tear to the leather section that attaches to the clasps that secure the chin padding to the cage. The clasps are also heavily rusted.
