Defeating the United States in the gold medal final 5-2 at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Team Canada would claim their first of three golds won within four Olympiads. Presented to backup netminder Ed Belfour, we have his 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Team Canada 10K gold and diamond ring. Size 10 with an approx weight of 35 grams, the tableau features real diamonds set within the raised Olympic rings, crowned with three points of a maple leaf, resting on a precious red stone. “Gold Medalist 2002 Olympics” appears slanted in raised letters over the top and bottom edges of the bezel, with a pair of small diamonds placed above and below a Salt Lake Olympic logo on the right, along with a pair of small diamonds above and below a Hockey Canada emblem on the left (one of the diamonds is missing from the right side). The right shank contains an enamel Hockey Canada logo and six maple leaves with the years of Canada's six previous gold medals wins, with “Belfour” above, and “20” below. The left shank contains the Salt Lake City logo, with the "Canada 5 vs. USA 2" result of the gold medal final above, and "Spirit Prevails" beneath. The inner band is stamped "IGO 10K", with the motto "Let the spirit prevail" engraved. Accompanied by a signed LOA from Ed Belfour, the original presentation box is also included.
The ring exhibits just light wear and remains in beautiful condition. The 4 ½” x 2 ¾” x 2” blond wood box has a gold plaque affixed to the interior, with the particulars listed including “Edward Belfour Gold Medalist” and “2002”.
