Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015

Classic Auctions is proud to present one of the most spectacular bronze hockey representations ever produced. This large monumental bronze of Maurice Richard stands at over 20” in height, with the base reaching 25” in length and a width of just over 12”. Extremely fine detailed, words cannot describe the majestic appearance or attention to craftsmanship this bronze projects, and its history is just as thought provoking. A Musee du Bronze booklet elaborates, “Marcel Choquette participated in a 1970 contest organized by the Montreal Forum. He fell ill, making it impossible for him to present his work. However, for unknown reasons, the contest never took place anyhow. Some 25 years later, Mr. Choquette's sister brings the work out of obscurity and offers it to the Musee du Bronze Inverness who later reproduced, and sold it, as a very limited-edition bronze”. Skillfully painted and detailed right down to The Rocket’s skate laces, this magnificent bronze weighs in at a staggering 78 lbs (35.4 kg). Inscriptions engraved on the side of the base read "Musee du Bronze D'Inverness '95" and "Marcel Choquette 1970" and "4/8". Accompanying the bronze is the absolute perfect companion piece in the form of a large framed photo that shows Maurice Richard posed with our consignor, with this very bronze front and center. Maurice has added an incredibly rare variation of his signature signing “Maurice Rocket Richard #9”, making this display piece a prize in itself, and it’s been framed to total dimensions of 34” x 42”. We cannot stress how truly magnificent this museum quality work of art is, and it’s inclusion in either the Hall of Fame or one of the greatest world class collections is appropriate. Originally purchased for $20,000.00, this unbelievable bronze will require special shipping arrangements.
