Jacques Villeneuve carried the #1 for the 1998 season as reward for being the 1997 World Champion. Jacques and the Williams team were going to try and defend the title with a new car, the Williams FW-20 and a new engine supplier Mechachrome. The chassis and engine struggled during the season and Jacques could only manage 2 podiums and a 5th place finish in the World Championship.
This Bell dominator helmet painted by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe is tagged “98.11” on the lower back which tells us it was the 11th helmet painted in 1998 for Villeneuve and remains in full tobacco livery. The helmet is in Jacques' traditional paint scheme and as per all of Jacques’ helmets, extra eye-port foam has been added, the upper front vents have been tapped-off and the top vents were also tapped-off; this was to reduce airflow into the helmet. The complete race radio remains intact and the drink tube has been drilled out but his sealed-off. The helmet shows noticeable wear with a number of small chips in the paint. Jacques has applied his signature to the visor which is somewhat hard to see on the tinted visor.
Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “JV 98-11” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
