Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
From his 11th of 25 seasons in the motor city, Gordie Howe finished the year in style, winning both the coveted Hart as well as Art Ross Trophies. This Northland Pro stick was used by Howe that very season, and it’s been team-signed. With “Howe” stamped midway up the shaft along with handwritten “9”, the stick also features the second of three distinct Lippman’s Tool Shop supplier stamps. With the original tape on the blade (minus a few strands) and upper shaft, the stick exhibits plenty of game-wear, with numerous puck marks on the front and backside of the blade as well as the shaft. Team-signed by 20, signatures include Howe, Ullman, Lindsay, Bucyk, Kelly, Hall and Marcel Pronovost.
The signatures have been applied in blue ballpoint, and they exhibit serious fading, but remain legible. Other signers include Reibel, Prystai, Pavelich, Ferguson, Godfrey, Skinner, Dea and Lefty Wilson. The stick also shows wear associated from age, with the blade joint at the shaft slightly warped, but this is only mentioned for complete accuracy as the stick display's extremely well.
