Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
The Motor City was abuzz with hockey in the early-1950’s as the Detroit Red Wings were a force to be reckoned with, winning 4 cups in 6 years between 1950 and 1955. This lot contains a vintage puck that’s been team-signed by this dynasty in either 1954 or ’55, having served both years as Stanley Cup Champions. Vintage tape has been applied to a sharp edged puck that was common for the era, with 14 different Red Wings signing in 2 very distinct inks, with the majority penned having faded over time. Hall of Famer’s who have signed include Howe, Lindsay, Kelly, Pronovost and Terry Sawchuk. The Sawchuk autograph was scripted in the lighter of the two inks, and despite fading considerably, is still very legible. Team-signed pucks from the fabulous fifties don’t make themselves available often, especially from Stanley Cup Championship teams.
Other signers on this historic 1950’s Detroit Red Wings team-signed puck include Bob Goldham, Tony Leswick, Marty Pavelich, Dutch Reibel, Glen Skov and Vic Stasiuk.
