Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Precious memorabilia from the November 2nd, 1937 night NHL stars gathered at the Montreal Forum to play a benefit memorial game for the family of the late Howie Morenz is offered here, with the blue-tinted pinback button measuring 1-1/4” in diameter. Featuring a stirring image of the star who had died tragically the previous March, the pin displays well with only a few light surface scratches and areas of rust on the metal reverse to mention. The game saw a team of Montreal Canadiens and Maroons face-off against stars from other NHL teams, with the Montreal contingent’s third period comeback attempt falling short, their opposition holding on for a 6-5 victory, with some $20,000 being raised for the widowed Mary Morenz and her family.
