This exciting baseball lot spanning over half a century in time is made up of a pair of turn-of-the-century tickets, 2 small cabinet photos, a large format photo, 3 postcards, a bat and jersey, and most excitedly, an original Peck & Snyder invoice. Peck & Snyder were the premier 19th century New York baseball suppliers beginning in the 1860’s and continuing until their eventual purchase by Spalding in the early 1890s. The invoice is dated May 26 1886, and it’s apparently for baseball gloves with a total purchase price of 24.00, quite a hefty sum for the late 1800s. The three early 1900s postcards all feature individuals including a pair on one simulating a sliding player being tagged out on base. One of the cabinet cards, in excellent condition features a team with B.P.O.E. on their jerseys, and it appears to be from the early 1900s. The second small cabinet photo features an individual in a lace-up collared jersey again suggesting early 1900s, and at one time bent, a piece of tape now covers the back bend. The large format photo measuring at 8” x 10” has condition issues including paper loss and discoloration and it features players wearing high-collar “Carthage” jerseys. The two tickets in this lot are for admittance to “Granville” baseball games, and they carry 10 and 25 cent price tags respectively. Rounding out this great antique baseball lot we have a Burke Hanna 34” bat in very good condition that’s stamped “Grand Prize” on the end of the barrel. Lastly, we have a circa-1940s zip-up baseball jersey that’s reminiscent of Babe Ruth, with both the blue Yankee pinstripes and Ruth’s iconic #3. “Quality” has been placed across the front in heavy felt, and the original King-O’Shea and size 40 tags remain in the collar.
