Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
The 1946 Montreal Royals, winners of the Little World Series that year, are featured in this team picture on thin paper stock and measuring 5" by 9-1/2". Standing at the far right is Jackie Robinson, the man who would make history by breaking the Major League colour barrier the following season. We're not sure whether that's John Wright or Roy Partlow (at the far left of the back row), two black pitchers who also suited up for Montreal in 1946. Some light creasing, limited mostly to the right side and not affecting the image is to note, along with a tiny edge tear at each side. Also included is an EX picture (5 x 8-1/4) of the 1945 Royals. Notables on the 1946 squad, who along with Robinson helped Montreal to a 100-54 record, were Al Campanis, George Shuba, Herman Franks, Red Durrett and pitcher Jean-Pierre Roy, the latter also appearing in the picture from 1945, a season in which he won 25 games.
