Revived just over a decade ago, the Whitby Dunlops have a rich history dating back to their inception in the mid-1950s. They were Allan Cup champs in 1957, World Champions in ’58 and Allan Cup winners again in 1959. This beautiful Whitby Dunlops wool captain’s jersey was game-worn circa 1956-58, and during that time frame Edward Raymond wore #2 in 1956-57 while John Chasczweski donned the #2 jersey in 1957-58. With "Joe Flynn Sporting Goods" tagging on the inside hem, the jersey sports a beautiful thick felt crest and captain’s “C” with additional circular “Dunlop” felt crest on the left sleeve. The large back felt “2” is solid black with red accent trim and it’s been affixed with a traditional zig-zag style sewing pattern. While it’s difficult to quantify historical importance, this gorgeous wool jersey from a World Champion and dual Allan Cup winning team ranks near the top. Please refer to the Classic Auctions website for a complete analysis regarding this sweaters condition.
A countless number of team repairs both vintage and modern grace the garment throughout, and the red band along the front and back neckline has bleed into the yellow coloured sections within its proximity. There are also a number of vintage holes to mention on this tie-neck beauty including 7 larger examples localized around the right elbow area. Both team crests also show wear, with some flaking to the screened-on name and accents. Some staining worth mentioning is also present on the lower front and on the back bottom hem.
