Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Fascinating pieces dating as far back as 150 years ago make up this assembly, dominated by trade cards depicting ice hockey. The cards allowed retailers to advertise their products and businesses, with clothing, boots/shoes, groceries, chocolates, coffee/tea, soap, pianos, sewing machines, coal and still more pitched here. The same classic "Bufford" hockey scene (14) and others (hockey, skating, snowball fighting!) total more than two dozen, many of them from Boston/Massachusetts, with New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut and New Hampshire also represented and the reverse of one advertising Acme, American Club and Ice King Skates along with roller skates - cool. European examples (German, French, Dutch) also contribute. A card advertising an 1884 Polo game at the Fall River (Mass.) Skating Rink (not drastic back damage) is a standout, with miscellaneous 20th century pieces bringing the grand total to over six dozen.
Notable among the aforementioned miscellaneous items are miniature cards and booklets (a comic hockey flip book is nifty), pocket schedules for the 1946-47 Ak-Sar-Ben (Omaha) Knights (scores written-in) and '69-70 Toronto Maple Leafs and Marlboros and a Weetabix 3-D "Thrill Card". Rarities and scarcities await the astute high bidder here, with condition overall pleasing indeed.
