Amazing opportunity is this rare Rice Studio team photo of the squad of NHL All-Stars team from the 1937 Howie Morenz Memorial Game. An all-Hall of Fame back row is featured in this amazing cast of players pictured in their respective NHL team uniforms, a crystal-clear original photograph that captures legends such as Eddie Shore, Charlie Conacher, Frank Boucher and coach Jack Adams who took on a combined Montreal team of Canadiens and Maroons at the Forum. This extremely rare and seldom seen photo is an original Rice Studio photo, although it is not marked as such. It measures 7 1/4” x 9 1/2” and is very nicely preserved with pinholes at the corners and two small creases that do not diminish the display of this historic image.
The entire back row is a stellar cast of deceased HOFers, including Red Horner, Harvey “Busher” Jackson, Hap Day, Charlie Conacher, Dit Clapper, Sweeney Schriner, Ebbie Goodfellow and Eddie Shore. The front row features Johnny Gotselig, Art Chapman, Frank Boucher, Tiny Thompson, Jack Adams, Normie Smith, Mush March, Cecil Dillon and Marty Barry.
The Howie Morenz Memorial Game was essentially the NHL's second All-Star Game. Played on November 3, 1937, the game was staged for the benefit of the family of the late Habs icon and it raised over $11,000, which helped established a fund of more than $20,000 for the Morenz family. The NHL All-stars defeated the combined Montreal team of Canadiens and Maroons players, 6–5.
