One of the most desirable types of game-worn jerseys in the hobby is this example from the man selected 2nd overall in the 1970 NHL draft, talented D-man Dale Tallon, who skated for Vancouver, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and even for Team Canada '72 before hanging them up and turning to broadcasting and ultimately the GM of both Chicago Black Hawks and Florida Panthers. We have Tallon's coveted "Blue Penguins" game-worn jersey from his final year as a player, 1979 in Pittsburgh, with this jersey being from the seldom-seen first set of 1979-80 Penguins gamers. Tagged in the collar as a "Stall & Dean" with an adjoining size flap with a handwritten "54" on one side and year "9" on the other, this Tallon gamer features a screened-on crest and numbers and shows light wear with a few marks, paint transfer, and board burns. Inside, a garter belt acts as a fight strap.
These gamers were used more sparingly as the Pens recycled many of the prior years’ sweaters over into the beginning of the 1979-80 season. In January 1980 the team would switch from the blue and whites to the black and gold's in an attempt to mimic the cities current World Champions, the Steelers and the Pirates.
