The late Johnny Wilson received this silver plated serving dish to commemorate the 1951-52 Detroit Red Wings amazing playoff run to the Stanley Cup. Terry Sawchuk posted four shutouts and allowed just five goals as the Red Wings won all eight of their playoff games. Wilson’s four playoff goals were second to Ted Lindsay’s five. “National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners Season 1951-52” is engraved at the top of the dish with “Detroit Hockey Club Inc. John Wilson” at the bottom. "Sheffield Reproduction" is stamped on the back along with a few other hallmarks. The wonderfully preserved dish exhibits light surface scratches. It measures 10” in diameter and stands about 2 1/4" tall. Comes with an LOA from the Wilson family plus a Classic Auctions LOA.
Wilson, an All-Star forward, played on four Stanley Cup championship teams with the Red Wings in the 1950s. He had 161 goals and 171 assists and played in the All-Star Game in 1954 and 1956. One of his most notable accomplishments was playing in 580 consecutive games between 1951 and 1960, making him the NHL's first "iron man".
