For the 1996-97 season, Murray switched from the number 57 to 22 as he settled in as a member of the Canadiens. However, he was shipped off to the Hartford Whalers via the Phoenix Coyotes in a three-way deal on March 18, 1997. This size 56 CCM red road Montreal Canadiens jersey hails from that campaign and it is believed that he may be wearing it in a photo which can be viewed on the Getty Images website (#277988) since the shot shows an unrepaired cut on the left shoulder seam which can be found on this sweater. We hesitate to call it a definitive photo match since the image is not of high enough resolution to provide total clarity. Exploring the jersey further, we see a small hole back right shoulder along with a black mark on the right cuff area, a large tear on the right elbow area going over red and white area with a board burn on blue area. Moving to the left arm, there is a black mark on the upper left, a small hole in the blue area, and two board burns near the elbow. There are also three small black marks mid-section below the iconic Canadiens crest. At the back of the bottom hem, there is a large CCM logo along with the black and orange NHL shield. Obtained directly from the Canadiens, a LOA from the team signed by Rejean Houle will accompany.
