Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
Forever popular will be the Hockey Hall of Fame postcards featuring the wonderful artwork of Carleton “Mac” McDiarmid, with this all-Leafs group enhanced with wonderful autographs. Signing their respective renditions before heading to the hockey heavens were King Clancy (both front and back), Hap Day, Gordie Drillon, Sweeney Schriner, Red Horner and Syl Apps, while personalizing theirs “to Paul” were deceased HOFers Ace Bailey, Ted Kennedy, Joe Primeau, Babe Pratt and Harold Ballard. Other signatures were penned by Armstrong, Bower, Mahovlich, Stanley and Kelly, the latter dedicated to our lucky recipient/consignor. Postcards are 4” by 6”, with five cards not signed, (Smythe, Conacher, Horton), completing the beauty Leafs booty.
The vast majority of the signatures are done in blue ballpoint or fine blue felt-tip pen, with Kennedy signing twice and Hap Day going over the “H” twice after the pen didn’t run the initial attempt. Apps signed in thick silver ink and Kelly in red. A rather heavy, albeit small crease, affects the lower left corner of the Primeau postcard, with a similar-size but lighter and not-very-detracting crease spotted in the Drillon, Schriner and Mahovlich examples. All-in-all, a special chance for Leaf/autograph enthusiasts.
