Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Lovers of weird, wild stuff will be intrigued by this offering, with Pepsi-Cola hockey caps from the early-1980s relatively well known to collectors but not this type. A complete proof set of 140 features head shots of players from the seven Canadian-based teams at the time but not on the interior of bottle caps but on the showing side, if the caps were put on bottles, which they weren't. Cleverly displayed in coin holders with shrink-wrap encasing each team set of 20, the tops feature a white background, while another similar (loose) near set has the images appearing on silvery cap tops. Then there's a near set of the caps as we came to know them, (with the players' pictures on the interior), except for the fact that there were never any vinyl liners inserted and the caps were never put on bottles. Condition throughout the three groups is overall near mint, with the lineup led by young Oilers Messier, Coffey, Kurri, Anderson and Lowe, along with Canadiens Hall of Famers Savard, Lapointe, Robinson, Gainey and Shutt, with the Stastnys, Goulet, Salming and Nilsson also contributing. Talk about possibilities with this unique stash! Also present are 16 Pepsi caps with "Hockey Offer - Offre" on the tops and the vinyl liners featuring NHL facts/records.
*There are 29 (silver-top) caps not present; a Calgary team set (20) and nine others including the Stastny brothers, while a Mark Messier cap is one (of 11) not spotted in the "regular" caps.
