Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
The epitome of the classic All-American, sporting flowing blond hair and inviting movie star looks, iconic Princeton superstar and World War I hero Hobey Baker fit the bill perfectly, with his unmatched athleticism both on the rink and gridiron legendary within the Ivy League. This lot offers a pair of highly desirable Princeton team photos featuring the tragic star including the 1913 football and 1914 hockey teams, accompanied by a page with composite Princeton student images including Baker. All three approx 9” x 12” sepia-toned card stock photos originate from the same source, as each is matching in material, appearance and age, with each having a thin linen border along the left side, possibly from a previous mounting. While we are not completely sure where the photos originate from, we should note that they appear period, with the possibility existing of slightly later production, with each a unique image we have never handled previously.
The 1913 football and 1914 hockey photos both list the year, with a logo over the bottom right of the hockey photo from photographer White in New York. Each exhibit’s moderate to heavier toning, with surface wear present but no wrinkles or creasing, with silvering occurring within the upper left section of the hockey photo.
