Joining the NHL as one of the historic clubs that closed out the Original Six era and expanded the league from six teams to twelve, the Pittsburgh Penguins have earned numerous Division and Conference titles, with each of their five Stanley Cup championships won on the road. Steel City can proudly boast three of the greatest players in history representing the mighty igloo, with Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Sidney Crosby. This lot contains a great Penguins’ postcard and team card collection of approx 539, ranging from the late-1960s, to 1999-00, with approx 82 examples signed. Highlighted by a second year card signed by legendary superstar Mario Lemieux, this group is a must for any true Pens supporter or collector. The breakdown for the items by year is as follows. First, late-1960s – 13 JD McCarthy postcards with 2 signed including Binkley (signed), McDonald, Woytowich, Bassen and others, 1969-70 – 4 signed photo cards (Pratt, Prentice, Fonteyne and Schinkel), 1970-71 – 2 signed photo cards (Rupp and Zaine), 1971-72 – 21 colour postcards including Kelly (coach), Binkley, Schock, Rutherford, Polis and others, 1971-72 – 6 oversized photo cards (7” x 9”) including Burrows, Stoughton, Polis, Rutherford and 2 others, 1974-75 – 33 black and white postcards including Schock, Burrows, Pronovost, Larouche, Hadfield, Kehoe and others, 1975-76 – 8 team-issued player photos including 2 signed, 1977-78 – 7 team-issued player photos including 1 signed (Malone), 1978-79 – 21 team-issued player photos, late-1970s – 18 black and white postcards including Schultz, Mahovlich, Campbell, Burrows, Wilson, Pronovost and others (paper/glue residue over each reverse), early-1980s – 26 black and white postcards including Taylor, Flockhart, Fox and others, 1982-83 – 2 team-issued player photos (Kehoe and Shedden), 1983-84 – 19 Coke team-issued player photos including Herron, McSorley, Carlyle, Bullard, Dion and others, 1984-85 – 13 Coke team-issued player photos including Fox, Herron, Kehoe and others, 1985-86 – 29 postcards including 16 signed, with the signed examples to include Lemieux (second year), Cunneyworth, Lindstrom, Hillier, Simpson, Ruskowski and others, 1986-87 – 37 Coke team-issued player photos including Lemieux, 1987-88 – 25 Coke team-issued player photos including 6 signed including Lemieux (not signed), Coffey (signed), Bourque (signed) and others, 1987-88 – 25 Kodak hockey cards including Lemieux and Coffey, 1988-89 – 25 Coke team cards including 19 signed, with the signed examples to include Bourque, Dineen, Brown, Barrasso, Cullen, Cunneyworth, Stevens, Zalapski and others, 1989-90 – 32 Coke/Big Boy team cards including 9 signed, with the signed examples to include Dineen, Brown, Stevens, Lemieux and others, 1989-90 – 15 Foodland hockey cards including Lemieux, Coffey, Brown and others, 1990-91 – 20 Coke/Big Boy team cards including Jagr (rookie) along with 6 signed (Trottier, Young, Gilhen and others), 1990-91 – 15 Foodland hockey cards including Lemieux and Jagr, 1991-92 – 34 Coke/Big Boy team cards including 8 signed, with the signed examples to include Lemieux, Murphy, Hrdina, Roberts and others, 1991-92 – 15 Foodland hockey cards including Lemieux and Jagr, 1992-93 – 18 Clark/Coke team cards including 9 signed, with the signed examples to include Stevens, Samuelsson, Tocchet and others, 1993-94 – 25 team cards including Lemieux, 1993-94 – 5 team-issued player photos, 1994-95 – 5 team cards, 1995-96 – 12 US Air cards, 1996-97 – 6 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review cards, 1999-00 – 3 team cards. The misc items include small photos signed by Binkley, Apps, Pronovost, Coffey and others, a few assorted Mario Lemieux postcards, a HOF 2000 Induction card signed by Joey Mullen, Crosby and Lemieux Reebok/KOHO ad cards, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review team photo cards for 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96 and 1998-99, and more. The majority of the items in the collection are in beautiful condition with just very light handling wear, with heavier wear as mentioned to the reverses of the late-1970s postcards.
