Featuring franchises that joined the NHL as expansion clubs, the Washington Capitals and Kansas City Scouts were both formed in 1974, with the Capitals thriving to this day as 2018 Stanley Cup champions, while the Scouts relocated to become the Colorado Rockies in 1976. This lot contains a great grouping of Washington Capitals, Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Scouts team-issued press photos totaling approx 133. The Capitals photos range from 1974-75 to 1978-79 and total 91, while the Scouts photos include examples from both of the club’s seasons in 1974-75 and 1975-76 and total 25. The Rockies photos all hail from 1980-81 and total 17. All glossy black and white prints in the 8” x 10” range, included for the Capitals, we have 15 photos from the inaugural season in 1974-75 (5” x 7”) with the original envelope including Williams, Low and Joly, 19 photos from 1975-76 including Lalonde, Clement and Low, 47 photos from 1976-77 including Green, Low, Joly and Charron, and 10 photos from 1978-79 including Picard and Watson. The Rockies include 16 photos from 1980-81 with Quenneville, Ramage, Lefley, DeBlois, Delorme, McDonald and Valiquette, accompanied by a 1980-81 colour team photo. For the Scouts, we have 14 photos from the first season in 1974-75 including Rota, Hudson, Wright and Baumgartner, and 11 photos from 1975-76 including Hudson, Lagace, Rota, Patrick and Paiement. The majority of the photos show just light to moderate wear with the odd corner ding, crease or blemish.
