Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Originally receiving the somewhat over dramatic title of “Hell on Ice”, 1937’s Idol of the Crowds was renamed at the behest of the Motion Picture Association of America, with the Motion Picture Production Code established to set industry moral guidelines. We have an original One Sheet poster for the film, with this the most popular size with collectors. At the standard 27” x 41” and adhered to a linen backing with full dimensions of approx. 29” x 42 ½”, wonderful artwork is featured including a caricature of the film’s star John Wayne, with the credits beneath the title and “1937 Universal Pictures” along the base. The colours retain their boldness including the deep royal blue used for the title letters, with three horizontal fold lines visible, with just some minor toning the main concern.
