Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
HOFer Doug Gilmour used this Titan gamer early in his career during the 1987 Canada Cup. Killer contributed two goals in eight games for Canada, which defeated the Soviet Union in a three-game final that showcased some of the best hockey ever played, capped by Mario Lemieux’s unforgettable goal set up by Wayne Gretzky. The No. 28 Dougie wore during the tournament is handwritten in black marker on the shaft which has a “D. Gilmour” stamp farther down. Gilmour’s original tape jobs remain on the knob and blade. Date stamp “187808” sits low on the back of the shaft and solid game wear includes three marks low on the shaft that show in an action photo of Gilmour during the 1987 Canada Cup.
The resolution is not high enough for a photo match, but the slightly cracked gouge on the upper edge of the tip of the blade also appears to show. More game use shows in red goalpost paint transfer on the shaft.
