The most comprehensive collection of early Bee Hive hockey photos is what we have the honor and pleasure of offering to start another exciting year, with the assembler’s staggering jackpot truly a magnificent years-in-the-making accomplishment which merits admiration and which provides the hobby with a unique opportunity. Get this - every single confirmed Group 1 Bee Hive photo, the likes of which originated at the St. Lawrence Starch Company in Port Credit, Ontario and which had consumers coveting Bee Hive Corn Syrup labels and other proofs of purchase, (so that they could mail them to the firm in exchange for the popular pictures), during the successful promotion’s first ten years, has been tracked down and acquired. Our consignor used the Charlton Standard Catalogue as his guide and was able to put a checkmark beside each and every one of the photos listed, except one, (and we’ll address that in a moment), a monumental achievement given the rarity of some examples. Now then, the Charlton lists a Prince of Wales Trophy example in the “blank back” section, but our consignor was told by several veteran dealers during his lengthy quest that no such photo exists. Meanwhile, it has been decided that the time has come to pass along the formidable compilation to an appreciative home...or homes. As you'll see, we've divided up the collection into some three dozen lots which will be the object of separate bidding. Thus, to take home the entire collection, a bid will be required to be placed that is superior to the sum of the 35 lots that comprise the collection.
Dozens of scarce photos are joined by ALL of the next-to-impossible-to-find rarities, with individual condition details of the most important pictures available on our website, where team and trophy/miscellaneous groupings are also elaborated on. We can tell you and you’ll see, that rare pictures of Cy Wentworth, Gordie Drillon and Marty Barry, all posed in Canadiens uniforms, Joe Krol and Hazen McAndrew of the Americans, Chicago’s Dave MacKay, the Red Wings’ Jerry Brown and Rhys Thompson of the Maple Leafs are fascinatingly spellbinding to longtime Bee Hive followers. Howie Morenz, Aurele Joliat, the Cook brothers, Nels Stewart, King Clancy, Toronto’s Kid Line and other pre-war stars, as well as a young Rocket Richard and Boston’s Kraut Line are among those who highlight the “legends” aspect of the sensational lineup, while elusive pictures of the trophies they were awarded back in the day add to the appeal, as do famous broadcasters Foster Hewitt and Wes McKnight. Enjoy perusing our website and this smashing and ultimate Group 1 Bee Hive ensemble.
