Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
It’s a feast of goaltender-signed and unsigned goodies here which includes 5 signed Gerry Cheevers photos, 4 signed Dominik Hasek pics, plus signed photos of John Vanbiesbrouck, Ed Belfour, Tony Esposito, Gilles Villemure, Ed Giacomin, Roberto Luongo, Marcel Paille, Gilles Gilbert, Don Edwards, Sugar Jim Henry, Arturs Irbe, and a duo-signed Phil and Tony Esposito pic, plus unsigned displays in different sizes of Jacques Plante, Terry Sawchuk, and Rogie Vachon, and a full size, (and slightly crude) Vanbiesbrouck/Panthers replica mask.
A cool lot, beginning with a 16” x 20” shot of Gerry Cheevers and Bobby Orr in action against the Blackhawks, in excellent condition aside from 4 corner pinholes, signed in clear black marker by Cheevers who has added “HOF 85”. A b&w limited-edition illustration of Cheevers is numbered as “137/300” and signed at the top in black by Cheevers. This print has had the top left corner cut out that doesn’t affect the image, and a series of small pinholes are on the corners and edges but overall is a terrific display piece. The Dominator, Dominik Hasek, has signed in clear blue marker on a couple of 16” x 20” photos - 1 taken from behind the net on which Dom, inducted into the HOF in November 2014, has added “MVP 97, 98”, and another from in front. A 16” x 20” close up of a masked John Vanbiesbrouck in his Panthers uniform is nicely signed by Beezer in dark blue marker, while 4 goaltender pics on foam backboard include a signed Ed Belfour pic measuring 19 ¾” x 19 ¼”, with Belfour adding “The Eagle” to his signature which shows slight paling. Tony Esposito has signed with dark marker on his 8” x 10” picture of Tony in 1972 Summit Series action, with him adding “Team Canada 1972”. This pic is mounted in a matte, measures 16” x 18 ½” overall, and aside from faint dirt on the matte, is in excellent condition. The next matted display on foam backboard is of Gilles Villemure, who has signed in large and clear blue marker on the bottom area of the matte, with the overall size reaching 18 ½” x 20 ¼”. And Gerry Cheevers has signed in clear blue marker on the matte displaying a cool shot of him in action while with the WHA Cleveland Crusaders, with the overall size being 16 ½” x 18”. Cheevers has signed yet another, a great 10 ½” x 13” action shot of him against the Soviets during the 1974 Summit Series, with his handwriting in clear blue marker where he’s added “HOF 85”. An 11” x 14” photo of Ed Giacomin is on cardboard and nicely signed by Giacomin in dark marker, with him adding “HOF 87”. Signed 8” x 10” photos include Sugar Jim Henry (in dark marker), Don Edwards in dark blue marker, Gilles Gilbert in black marker, a Phil and Tony Esposito combo, with both signing in blue marker, Roberto Luongo in dark blue marker, and 2 signed Dominik Hasek photos – 1 of him with the Cup with Detroit, and another in his Czech National Team uniform, both in blue marker. We also have an 8 ½” x 11” printed illustration of Gerry Cheevers, signed by Cheesey in dark blue marker, and an 8” x 10” photo of Rangers goalkeeper Marcel Paille (dec. 2002), which is accompanied by Paille’s signature on a 1 ¾” x 5” lined cut, signed in very thin black ink. A signed 8” x 10” of Sharks goaltender Arturs Irbe is accompanied by a huge shot of Irbe in action (unsigned) on foam backboard measuring 22” x 33 ¼”. And lastly, 3 unsigned displays – a matted illustrated montage measuring 23 ¾” x 30” showing images of Rogie Vachon in different uniforms – Team Canada, Boston, Montreal, L.A. Detroit, and All-Star; an illustrated Terry Sawchuk montage showing him with Toronto and Detroit, measuring (with matte), 22 ¾” x 27 ¼”; and finally, a great shot of a sprawling Jacques Plante stopping Toronto’s Bob Pulford, with the 10 ½” x 12 ½” photo housed in a 18 ½” x 20 ½” white matte with red and blue trim, with the photo in excellent condition but the matte showing a scattering of dirt and some bumps and damage to the corners and edges.
