Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Appealing postcard from the outset of the 20th Century features a terrific color shot of the Ottawa Silver Seven which beautifully captures hockey's original Stanley Cup dynasty. Measuring approximately 3 ½” x 5 ½”, this old gem has Ottawa (probably) and Kenora postmarks on the back and has a handwritten note from Ethel in Ottawa to Dora in Kenora, saying it was about time she sent a card. On the front, to the right of the team picture, is the handwriting “I hope you had a good time Tuesday evening”. Tremendously rare offering here with only some wear on the edges and a touch of creasing to note.
Led by Hall-of-Famers Frank McGee (standing, far right) and team captain Harvey Pulford (seated, second from left), the Silver Seven defeated nine challengers during their Cup reign from March 1903 to December 1906. Teammates Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour and Alf Smith are also enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
