“The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! It was amazing what led up to the “Shot heard ‘round the world”, when Bobby Thomson of the N.Y. Giants blasted a Ralph Branca fastball over the wall to give the New Yorkers the 1951 National League title. Late in the summer the Brooklyn Dodgers had held a huge lead, but it was whittled down when the Giants won 16 straight in August, and 7 straight in their last 7 games to finally tie the Brooklyn squad on the final day of the regular season. In the 3-game playoff, the first 2 games were split, and in the deciding 3rd game, it was 3-1 Dodgers going into the bottom of the 9th when the Giants narrowed in to 3-2, and then with 2 men on base, Bobby Thomson hit a Branca fastball over the left field fence to give the Giants a 5-4 pennant win and forever etch the moment into permanent baseball lore. Offered is a beautiful photo of Thomson swinging after Branca’s delivery, with both major participants Thomson and Branca signing in beautiful blue marker, with Thomson adding “Oct. 3, 1951” below his name. The 20” x 24” metal frame with matte houses the 16” x 20” photo, and to note is some clear tape on parts of the glass which is virtually invisible and can be removed if desired. Also included are 2- 1980 Perez Steele Hall of Fame Postcards in 6”x 9” mattes featuring HOFers Joe Cronin and Hank Greenberg (both inducted in 1956), with both signing theirs in stylish black ink penmanship. W e also have white index cards measuring 3” x 5”, signed by Bill Dickey (inducted 1954), and Yogi Berra (inducted 1972), in blue ink. All 5 pieces come with PSA/DNA Auction Letters of Authenticity.
