Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The 1979 IIHF World Championships were staged in Moscow, with the home squad collecting gold while the Czechs and Swedes finished second and third respectively, and when just the European teams tallied their wins and losses, the same three teams finished in the same order. Offered is a Swedish European Championship bronze medal from these ’79 games, measuring almost three inches in diameter, and featuring “1979” on the ribbon attachment (with no ribbon included). The face shows the raised images of players along with the inscription “European Champions”, while on the reverse is the colored IIHL logo and “International Ice Hockey Federation”. This great medal has been wonderfully preserved with very few marks or nicks, and with only a touch of aging.
