Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Interesting offering in this original collage oil painting presenting the 1989 Aberdeen Hockey Team, champions of the "Junior Amateur Hockey Association of Canada". The artwork, possibly painted overtop of an early team photograph, features each player identified below his image and included the visage of the great Frank McGee. McGee was a legendary during the early days of hockey for the Ottawa Hockey Club, nicknamed the Silver Seven. Although McGee was blind in one eye, he scored 14 goals in one Stanley Cup game and he led the Silver Seven in its reign as Stanley Cup champions for four seasons (1903'06). During World War I, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and died in battle in France. McGee was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945. The 13" x 15" oil painting is certainly vintage, although it might not be from 1898, and it has been preserved in near excellent condition.
